The winter edition of Love Island kicked off on Monday night as five new single boys and five single girls headed into the stunning South African villa.
Viewers flocked to Twitter in hoards to rejoice about the dating show’s return and new presenter Maya Jama was being hailed for her first night on the show, after Laura Whitmore’s exit.
She kicked things off by introducing viewers to the boys - Haris, Shaq, Will, Ron and Kai. Then came the girls - Tanya, Lana, Anna-May, Tanyel and Olivia.

Despite some minor tensions during the coupling up - most notably Kai being in high demand - many viewers were focusing on their confusion over technical issues during the show.
The major distraction had viewers taking to social media saying they were ‘stressed’ as multiple glitches occurred during the first episode.
"What is this glitch," one viewer queried. "The glitch is going to make me peel my TV off the wall," another wrote. "That glitch had me stressed," a third said.
Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Trying to get through this episode when there's a glitch every two seconds."
Despite this, viewers were also left picking their early favourites from the first couples of the series which are as follows:
- Tanya and Shaq
- Lana and Ron
- Tanyel and Kai
- Anna-May and Haris
- Olivia and Will
However, it's early days and all of our new islanders remain open to getting to know one another.
The episode came to a close as Maya returned to drop a bombshell - literally. New boy Tom entered the villa as Maya shared the news that he would be stealing one of the girls in 24 hours - leaving a boy single and vulnerable.
Who Tom chooses will be revealed in the next episode but viewers know that there is another bombshell on the way very soon, as the public were voting to send either Tom or Ellie into the villa.
Love Island returns tonight to Virgin Media Two at 9:00 pm.
