Love Island kicked off on Monday, June 6 and viewers were all left saying the same thing about the dating show's shock twist in the first episode. As the Islanders entered the villa, host Laura Whitmore informed them that unlike the previous series, this season's first coupling was to be decided by the public.
Prior to the show starting, producers of Love Island tasked the public with playing Cupid as the popular ITV series returned to screens. IT meant that unfortunately for the Islanders, they didn't have a say as to who they were picked with. The twist, which was first revealed by co-host Iain Stirling during an appearance with Lorraine, didn't strike a chord with viewers, who slammed it as "underwhelming".
It wasn't just viewers that seemed unhappy either, as the majority of Islanders questioned whether they were partnered with the right person. It remains to be seen whether any successful relationships will blossom from the general public's choices. Find out more about this year's contestants here.

@Misan_Deoz said: "It was very underwhelming the public choosing. They should have let them pick. Then the public choose tonight! And let the drama ensue!"
Other viewers agreed, @slawal said: "They shouldn't do this public vote thing again"
While @LoveIslandReact questioned: "Why have the producers changed the coupling up? #LoveIsland."
And @tearsIeftocry added: "Don't know how to feel about the public choosing… #LoveIsland."
