Love Island fans were quick to voice their frustration at contestant Dami Hope after the Irish microbiologist used the fact that he's "a guy" as an excuse for why he kissed Casa Amor newcomer Summer (multiple times) while still coupled up with former flame Indiyah Polack on Sunday's episode.
The pair coupled up a number of weeks ago, when Dami's first partner, Amber, got voted out of the villa. Since, they seemed to have built a solid connection until Dami's head was turned by newcomer and bombshell Summer Botwe, while Indiyah was away with the other girls at Casa Amor.
After all Islanders returned to the main villa on Thursday evening, complete with with some shock recouplings, it seems Dami's feelings for Indiyah were not gone, as tonight he pulled her for a chat. The 26-year-old told the hotel waitress: "I missed you, so..." When she didn't respond, he said: "This is where you say you missed me back. You didn't miss me?"
Indiyah, from London, responded: "You missed me, but really? You missed me that much?"
After Dami apologised to Indiyah for his behaviour, Indiyah said: "You did what you did, you're saying you felt guilty after one kiss, but then you kissed her again and again and again and again." To which Dami responded with: "I dunno, I'm a guy, man."
Viewers of the show were quick to call him out on this comment, taking to Twitter to vent their frustration. Twitter user @justcallmethe0 said: "Indiyah: you kissed her more than three times Dami: “I’m a guy” . What type of nonsense excuse is that??"
@ckcalliek wrote: "“i’m a guy” dami that ain’t an excuse. #LoveIsland", while @lydiafarrugia26 also said: "I love indiyah the fact that she said “HUH” when dami said “well am a guy soo” don’t even try and use that as an excuse."
@MattyArsenalFC. said: "Dami tried the "I'm a guy" excuse in 2022 smh that wasn't even OK in series 1 #LoveIsland" @TaniyaJackson13 said: "I’ve lost all respect for Dami. In what world is “I’m a guy” a valid excuse #LoveIsland"
@Ryan_Colaco also said: "Dami saying “I’m a guy” when trying to justify his bad behaviour loooool please don’t stereotype all us men with what this man says!"
Later in the episode, viewers saw Dami opening up to Indiyah about his feelings, saying: "It was always gonna be you for me. Even when you left and stuff, it was always gonna be you. There was a possible connection there with Summer but I don’t feel like the way I feel like when we’re together. It’s incomparable to what I feel we have. I feel like it is with you, and if it’s not gonna be with you it is what it is but I don’t feel like anyone else could come in and they’ll change the way I feel about you.”
Following this, Indiyah, who is currently coupled up with Casa Amor boy, Deji, responded by letting Dami know he was not alone in the connection he was feeling.
Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
