Seriously annoyed Love Island fans were quick to complain as their enjoyment of the first episode was 'ruined' by an issue with streaming service ITVX, with ITV also 'blacking out' on more than one occasion during the launch.
While it's still less than six months since Ekin-Su and Davide won the last series, the hit ITV2 dating show returned for its second winter run on Monday, back in South Africa, with a new Love Island villa for the new Islanders to enter, as Maya Jama took over as host.
A week after the Love Island line-up was confirmed, the show kicked off in its usual 9pm slot, with the boys going into the villa first, as they waited for the girls to come in one-by-one. However, many of those people who relied on ITVX to get their Love Island fix were soon left disappointed when they were met with error messages on their TVs and laptops.
One annoyed viewers affected by the technical glitch, tweeted: "Typical @ITVX stops working as Love Island starts," with another fuming: "OI ITVX STOP PI**ING ABOUT THANKS" and a third posting: "no way itv x is down when i’m trying to watch love island DO SOMETHING"
By the time episode one reached its first ad break, a tweet appeared on the ITVX Twitter account assuring disgruntled viewers that the problem had been fixed, with the statement reading: "Hi, Good news! ITVX is now fully functioning again for you to watch your favourite ITV shows."
Offering an explanation, it added: "There was a technical issue that affected the services we offer on ITVX this evening, and apologise for any inconvenience this may of caused."
However, the tweet quickly attracted a number of replies from people still being blighted by problems, with one of those commenting: "you might wanna check that again, it’s still not working brruuuuuuuuuh"
As ITV2 also cut out, one viewer joked: "Someone put 25p in ITV2," with a second reacting: "Who has not paid the energy bill at ITV2?"
