Davide Sanclimenti reportedly dumped Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu after feeling "swamped" in the relationship and that she "careed more about them as a money-making brand than as a love match".
The Love Island couple was one of the most popular winners of the ITV2 reality dating show, bagging nearly two-thirds of the public vote during the final last year.
Yet, like their journey on Love Island, their relationship outside the villa certainly hasn't been plain sailing.
Just weeks after their win, Davide was spotted leaving a party with two girls while she was working in LA. And in April this year, Ekin-Su was said to have been furious with Davide after 'finding messages from two models'.
Ekin-Su has remained silent about their split so far, despite Davide confirming it on his social media before flying off to Ibiza for a photoshoot.
A source close to Davide told The Sun : "He felt swamped in the relationship, like he had totally lost his identity. He felt he was in Ekin’s shadow, with no room to grow.
“And he felt she cared more about them as a money-making brand than as a love match."
They added that Davide had been "wanting it to end for some time" and had never wanted to move in with her because he knew it would be harder for him to leave.
The insider continued that cracks started to show in their relationship when Davide put himself in "vulnerable positions" by partying with other women.
Ekin-Su and Davide were pictured together only last week at the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiere in London's West End - just days before Davide announced their relationship had come to an end.
The Mirror has reached out to Ekin-Su and Davide's reps for comment.
Their split comes nearly three months after the couple were said to have gotten into an argument after Ekin-Su found the messages on Davide's phone, with the 28-year-old reportedly contacting one of the women herself.
Davide is said to have met up with Instagram influencers in Manchester, before messaging the women to discuss their time together.
Ekin-Su is thought to have then found the messages after returning from a trip to Belfast.
A source close to the pair said: "It all exploded last Sunday after she found messages on Davide’s phone discussing their time together.
"He had been messaging both of the girls and she suspected they had all met up one night."
Speaking to The Sun, they added: "Ekin-Su contacted one of the girls to tell them she knew about things. She was furious and really upset."
