Love Island star Tasha's dad thinks her 'superpower' gives her an advantage over islanders

Love Island's Tasha Ghouri has a superpower that can put her at an advantage in the villa, according to her dad.

Blonde beauty Tasha, 23, was born deaf and dad Tarek, 55, believes her brilliant ability to lip read and detect body language in private conversations can be a huge help to her while on the show.

Speaking about his daughter's cochlear implant, Tarek told The Sun : "Her aid is very directional. It’s got a microphone at the front. So if people are talking behind at a distance, she probably won’t pick that up. But between that, her lip-reading and body language, she’s very good."

And while it is sure to come in handy over the coming weeks, Tarek confesses she's been using her "superpower" at home too - particularly during pub quizzes.

He revealed she is brilliant due to the fact she can confirm other teams' answers even when they are whispering.

Speaking about her ability to lip read, Tarek said it can help her to inspire others to realise their disability or a certain insecurity doesn't have to hinder their passion or dreams.

He candidly opened up about how he was originally worried about his daughter being trolled on social media while on the show but says he's extremely proud of her and how she is conducting herself in the villa.

Tasha was originally partnered with Andrew Le Page and is still currently in a pairing with him.

She was open about being deaf with her fellow contestants in the early stages of this year's Love Island and pulled them all to the fire pit to inform them and they were all very supportive.

She had previously told MailOnline how she went through years of speech therapy and hearing rehab to help her communicate.

Tasha told the publication ahead of the show's launch: "I wasn't always confident in my life, I have learned this is who I am and it's not a negative thing or something I hate. I love it now. I really am happy about it."

Tasha is the first deaf contestant on the dating series and follows EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis' appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

And Tasha was full of praise for the way Rose represented the deaf community on the show, calling it a "beautiful message".
