Love Island star Tanya shares the craziest rules in the villa

Tanya Manhenga has revealed what being in the Love Island villa is really like.

Tanya Manhenga, 23, entered the villa on day one in January 2023 and came fourth place alongside Shaq Muhammad on day 58. The couple are still together now.

A video was shared to Madame Joyce's TikTok account and has since racked up more than 1.6 million views, showing a snippet of an interview with Tanya on her podcast show Cocktails and Takeaways. The podcast allows for raw and emotive conversation, as Joyce discusses trending global events, music, dilemmas and even her most well-kept secrets, with a special guest joining each week.

Madame Joyce and Tanya discussed what life is really like in the Love Island villa, revealing that even on their days off they had to ask if they could go to the toilet. Podcast host Madame Joyce asked Tanya: “Are there any other weird house rules that you guys had?”

Tanya said: “If you need to go to the toilet you have to ask, you have a mic on constantly. You can just say and someone will hear you on the mic and then the voice coming from somewhere will just be like, ‘yeah, you can go’ or ‘not right now, just wait a second’."

She added: “You have to take your mic off before you get in the shower. And if you forget, they’re like ‘where’s your mic’ straight away. When you sign the contract it says 24/7 filming, even when we have the days off, they’re still filming during the day, we have to stay outside.

“If you’re going inside, they’re like ‘why are you going inside?’ You need to explain why you’re going inside. I’m like ‘I need to brush my hair, the lace is lifting, I need to go quickly’."

Madam Joyce then asked Tanya: “So you actually have to be outside sitting at the pool section?” to which Tanya explained they had to sit around the pool for around six or seven hours a day even on their days off.

Tanya said: “Yeah. You can’t be in the living room. So during the day you’ll be sitting in the garden having chit chat and whatever, and then you’ll see one of the producers come in and there like ‘it’s lunchtime’ and the tables will get put out by these big bouncers. You sit separately and then the producers are there to make sure you guys don’t talk about anything so that they don’t miss the storyline.”

Tanya then explained if the islanders had ‘hot and steamy’ gossip, if they were to begin discussing it, a voice would then say ‘Tanya’ in order for her to stop discussing the drama. Shocked, Madame Joyce quickly added: “Not the voice, it's giving big brother”.
