Love Island star shares behind-the-scenes secrets and if show is scripted

Love Island is back on our screens with a new episode set to drop tonight (July 1) and there's a big twist coming to the ITV show.

According to the Daily Mail, Love Island will send the women islanders to Casa Amor for the first time in three years rather than the men.

They revealed that some of the islanders including Gemma Owen, Paige Thorne, Ekin-Su and Indiyah Polack are first under the impression that they will be heading out for cocktails. However, this isn't what's set to happen at all, and instead they will meet more single islanders.

But whilst the islanders this year are in for a treat, people watching at home are too with one former reality star revealing all the behind the scene secrets of the show.

Taking to TikTok, Amy Hart, who appeared in the 2019 series of the reality dating show, has been answering fan questions and replying to them on social media.

So what questions are people asking and what are her responses? Here's five questions Amy answered giving us a taste of what it's like taking part in the show.

1. Do you get to see what footage goes out on TV beforehand?

"No you don't see anything. They don't check with you and yeah you don't know what's going out so it's quiet scary.

"You sit there sometimes like 'Oh, I've just said that and I'm on camera' so that's quiet scary. But yeah you don't know and I still don't know because i haven't watch it back."

2. What happens if you need to take a nap?

"This is a very important question and one very close to my heart as the nap Queen. You can nap in the afternoons outside but you can't go inside for a nap.

"We used to nap all the time so we would have slept all afternoon and then that night someone will have gone home and we'd be like 'right we've wasted our day oh my god this could have been our last day in the villa and we would have slept the whole day, that's it we're never napping again. We're going to enjoy every minute.'

"And then the next morning we'd get up, go outside and within 10 minutes we'd be like 'so we could nap in the mornings and just enjoy the afternoons'."

In another video about sleep Amy addressed her sleep schedule stating that there is such as thing as 'Love Island jet lag'.

3. Do people watch you when you go to the toilet?

"They have someone watching and when you go into the toilet they turn your mic off. But it's only one person in the toilet at any time.

"There is a camera in the toilet but it's a security camera that only gets looked at if something happened and they needed it to see how you fell and hit your head or something. But yeah they don't listen to you weeing or pooing and they don't watch you either."

4. Are the islanders filmed by cameramen and women or is it CCTV?

Amy says its a "fixed rig" so rather than having people walk around the villa with a camera trying to capture all the drama and action, the cameras are instead hooked up to a rig explaining it's "CCTV-like cameras" which are places all around the house and in the garden.

5. Is Love Island scripted?

This is arguably one of the most asked questions of any reality TV show. And it seems people are just as eager to find out whether or not the dating show is real or not.

Answering the question Amy explained: "When you say 'scripted', like EastEnders? When do you think we're learning?

"It look me a month to learn my panto script and that was two hours. I was there [in the Love Island villa] for five weeks. When was I learning that?

"I'm joking obviously but no it's not scripted at all. Everything happens as it happens and if you put lots of 20-somethings in a villa, stuff is going to happen. So no it's not scripted and the drama is all real."
