Former Love Island star Liberty Poole has said viewers rarely hear the islanders talk about Gemma Owen 's footballer dad Michael because of privacy rules on the show.
The reality star, 22, took part in the ITV2 dating show in 2021 and took to Reddit on Wednesday to answer questions from fans.
When asked why Gemma, 19, keeps quiet about her famous family, Liberty said: "I think details about our family that we spoke about wasn’t aired due to privacy."
She also revealed the contestants can't discuss the show itself, adding: "We aren’t allowed if we do we get told not to talk about production."
At the beginning of Love Island 2022, fans were keen to know if Gemma had told the rest of the contestants about her footballing connection.
Ex-islanders have since confirmed they became aware of her dad just days after moving into the villa.
Afia Tonkmor, who was the first person to be dumped from the villa this year, also said the islanders "don't care" about who he is.
Speaking on her Instagram Stories, she said: "If people do know – I did know before I went in because I watched her VT – but if they do know they don't care, nobody really cares.
"I don't know who he is. I know he's a football guy. It was never, ever spoken about in my presence."
Gemma's partner Luca Bish also hinted that he knows about the ex Liverpool player as he enjoyed a romantic date with Gemma.
During their chat, 23-year-old Luca said: "When we get out of here, obviously got to meet each other's families. Spend a bit of time, stuff like that.
"Do you think I'd get on with them?"
Gemma then replied: "Yeah, you have got a similar humour to my dad to be fair."
"If only I could kick a ball the same as him," Luca joked back. Gemma initially smiled before shooting a look at him and raising her eyebrows.
Earlier this month, viewers took to Twitter to speculate the fishmonger was "clinging" to Gemma because he wants to meet her dad.
One person wrote: "Okay but can we applaud this man for his dedication to meeting Michael Owen."
Another said: "Luca is getting ready to meet his idol," while a third tweeted: "Desperate for that signed t-shirt."
