A surprised Love Island fan got a spoiler for the latest episode he was yet to see - when he saw one of the contestants on his flight. So when the man spotted Jacques O'Neill as he travelled from Spain it broke the news to him that he had left the ITV2 show.
Jacques quit the hit programme last week following rows in the villa. His family told how he was struggling with his emotions after the incident involving his ex Gemma Owen who is also a contestant.
But with the fan, from Hull, being away on holiday he was still to watch the episode. So he was in for a shock when he saw the rugby league star at Palma airport.
He told Hull Live: "I was shocked seeing him as I didn’t catch up on the episodes due to being on holiday but then I saw him at the airport in Palma Nova. It was a complete shock to everyone there, the whole airport couldn’t believe it."
The man was full of praise for the rugby star telling how he posed for pictures with fans before going on to board his flight. He said: "What I thought was most touching is that he took time to get pictures with people after what he explained to the viewers on Tuesday night. This completely changed the view of what others thought of Jacques."
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Jacques had dropped in on training at his former club Castleford Tigers yesterday. While the club has first dibs on resigning him, should he wish to resume his playing career, head coach Lee Radford said no discussions had been held. The 23-year-old has also recently signed a modelling contract with FOMO models.
Jacques ex Gemma, an international dressage rider and daughter of the former England footballer Michael Owen, remains a contestant on Love Island. Prior to his departure the rugby player paired up with Welsh beauty Paige Thorne.
In the Casa Amor, Jacques fell to temptation and was un-loyal to Paige when he tested his "connection" and kissed and shared a bed with fellow Yorkshire contestant Cheyanne. Despite straying with Cheyanne, Jacques appears to still long for Paige. On Tuesday's episode, he said he'd be ready to "pick her up from the airport" when she eventually leaves the villa.
