Love Island Shaq's tearful movie night breakdown 'fuelled by unaired argument' says Martin Akinola

Love Island's ninth-series star Martin Akinola has revealed that an unaired argument was apparently to blame for Shaq Muhammad's teary upset on movie night.

Shaq was seen in the middle of what appeared to be an emotional moment on the popular ITV dating show.

Martin, who was dumped from the island on day 40, made an appearance on the Reality with Will Njobvu podcast alongside guest co-host Coco Sarel, where he said that a disagreement between himself and Shaq over their mutual attraction to Tanya Manhenga - which wasn't aired to viewers - came to a climax after the ever-disruptive Casa Amor.

“They didn’t show it, because like, you know on Movie Night everyone had their own sections and stuff? And mine was called ‘There’s something about Martin.’ It was when I said the two star, five star comment,” Martin explained to Will and Coco.

Will responded, “Oh yeah! Do you remember? When Tanya said something like, compare you to Shaq…” Martin then replied: “Yeah! Because she was comparing me to Shaq and I said ‘Two star, five star’ I can’t remember what it actually was. I never said that Shaq was two star. I just said that ‘Do you want to two star me, or five star me?’ “

According to Martin’s account, Tanya then asked him “Are you a five star?” prompting him to respond by telling her “Decide yourself.”

The clip was reportedly then rolled for the viewing pleasure of the Islanders but not for those watching on their sofas from home. Shaq had reportedly then said: “You're a five star, but I took your girl back.”

In an effort to avoid airing their dirty laundry, Shaq and Martin took themselves off for a private conversation in which their 'shared some home truths', reports the Mirror.

On the podcast, Martin recounted the conversation in which he said he'd told Shaq: “Listen, number one, your girl was only like five for the first thirty five minutes of our first conversation. And number two, I told her she doesn’t love you and she didn’t agree or disagree with it,” recalled the star.

He then admitted that’s when things began to get heated, with Shaq telling him “Listen, I’m just so pissed.”

Martin went on to reveal that Tanya and been lying to Shaq about what exactly went down between her and Martin during Casa Amor. Tanya had said to Shaw that her and Martin's kiss was just “a peck”, adding that she wasn't initially attracted to Martin, which he said was a lie.

After the two had aired their grievances with each other they could at least part on equal terms, even if it was a little embarrassing.

In a shock twist, Martin then revealed that Shaq’s tears following movie night, when he stepped outside of the villa some air, were actually due to what his fellow Islander had told him, and not the revelations from movie night itself.

“Do you know what? He was crying that night and everyone thought it was because of the movie night, but really he was crying because of what I told him.," confessed the star.
