Love Island set for spin-off as middle-aged mums and dads search for romance

Love Island bosses are launching a spin-off featuring middle-aged singletons looking for love, it has been reported.

The contestants will be in their 40s and 50s and will be matched up by their children while on a retreat.

It comes after years of fans calling for more diverse body types and less cookie cutter svelte and six-packed figures.

Currently, the mature version has the working title 'Your Mum, My Dad' and is set to air some time next year.

A source told The Sun : "Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down.

“This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime."

They added that the more mature contestants will "know their minds" and are likely to be "more adventurous".

The Mirror has reached out to ITV form comment.

It comes after Women's Aid have confirmed that they are talking with Love Island as they addressed the intense backlash over misogynistic and "controlling" behaviour by some of the male Islanders.

Responding to the backlash following the Mad Movies episodes, Women's Aid confirmed to Metro that they were in discussions with Love Island.

It will feature middle-aged mums and dads (ITV)

They said: "At Women’s Aid we are being tagged into a stream of Twitter posts, with viewers of Love Island highlighting the misogyny and controlling behaviour being shown on screen.

"This is clearly more than talking about any individual contestants, and a programme based around the formation of romantic relationships must have guidelines on what behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable in those relationships.

"We are talking to ITV, and they have shared with us information on their inclusion training, but what appears to be missing is specific information on abusive relationships and an understanding of controlling behaviour in relationships."

*Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2
