Love Island's Tasha Ghouri admits she 'didn't believe' her surprise Coronation invite

Love Island star Tasha Ghouri admitted she "didn't believe" she was really invited to King Charles' Coronation celebrations this weekend after getting a last-minute invite.

The 2022 contestant was shocked when she received a right royal invitation to attend a reception prior to the Coronation Concert this Sunday at Windsor Castle, the day after the King is crowned.

The model and deaf campaigner, 24, found out the surprise news last week and was delivered her plush invitation on Wednesday.

Tasha is an ambassador for The Royal National Institute for Deaf People, which she says is how her exclusive invite came about.

She revealed: "I didn't expect it if I am honest," she said before explaining that Queen Camilla is a patron of the charity.

Tasha continued: "It's a great opportunity to be invited. And it's gonna be a great day, and I get to go with Andrew as well so we will go together.

"I didn't expect it at all. I think it's because I do a lot of charity work behind the scenes that not everyone really knows about. So I think that's kind of why it's come about, but I'm excited. I can't wait."

Tasha added: "They told me a week before, my management was like you have been invited. And I was like, 'No way!'.

"So yeah, the actual invite came in a few days ago. To actually see it in person. I was like 'Wow', I didn't believe it."

Tasha became Love Island's first-ever deaf contestant when she appeared on the 2022 version of the ITV show where she fell head over heels for her now boyfriend, Andrew Le Page.

She took to her Instagram to share a photo of her invite with her fans.

It is set to be a grand affair, with some unexpected names providing entertainment, such as Tom Cruise, Winnie the Pooh and Dame Joan Collins.

Alongside Sir Tom Jones, adventurer Bear Grylls and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, they will appear in a series of pre-recorded sketches revealing little-known facts about the monarch.

Tasha is also expected to enjoy music performances from Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood, Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and Chinese pianist Lang Lang have also been added to the line-up.

Among the other new names set to perform are Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, DJ Pete Tong with his Ibiza Classics project, and the winner of The Piano TV talent show, Lucy.

Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor will also deliver a spoken-word performance.

Other stars on the line-up include Take That, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, plus classical acts including Andrea Bocelli and Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel.

The event on May 7 on the grounds of Windsor Castle will be in front of a crowd of 20,000 members of the public and invited guests.

It will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer, as well as BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
