Love Island's Paige lifts lid on her mum meeting Adam in Wales after frosty remarks on show

Love Island star Paige Thorne has opened up about her boyfriend Adam Collard and mum’s get together in Wales after first meeting in the ITV2 villa.

Paige Thorne ’s mum wasn’t too keen on her romance with Adam Collard when she visited her daughter in the Love Island villa, but it seems the 2018 troublemaker is now in her good books.

Paige’s mum Samantha gave her “savage” verdict on Adam to a smitten Paige during the annual Meet the Parents episode.

Paige was left reeling after Samantha quietly said of Adam: “I’m not buying it.”

She continued, referring to Paige’s coupling with rugby player Jacques O’Neill prior to his shock exit: “The way you were with Jacques was different, with Adam it just seems a lot different.”

Reflecting on the moment during an appearance on former Love Island star Toby Aromolaran’s podcast Fancy A Chat?, Paige said her “stomach dropped” in response to the comments.

She added: “They don't see everything and after what the girls told me about Adam, I know there would have been press out there. That kind of stuff she would have seen.

“So, at the time it wasn't nice to hear and obviously it was awkward breaking it to Adam, ‘my mum isn't a huge fan right now’, but he took it really well and understood.

“Mum’s just looking out for me. She didn't mean it against him, it wasn't personal.”

However, since the eighth series of the show came to an end, Paige and Adam travelled to her home of Swansea together to bond with her family away from the cameras.

Paige explained: “We came out and obviously the first thing he said was, ‘I need to meet your mum’.

“So he came down to Swansea to meet my family in the bar – my mum went up to him straight away and she said, ‘I'm so sorry for being so savage’. Not my mum apologising – she doesn't do that often.”

Paige continued: “Now she approves. I honestly didn't have one doubt she wouldn't. She just needs to meet him out of this environment and have a proper conversation.

Paige even said the afternoon of bonding turned surprisingly raucous, with Adam and her nan even dancing on the tables together.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Paige hit back at criticism from fellow Islanders since leaving the villa, which has seen her labelled “not nice”.

Paige said: "People have got to do what they've got to do. If you've got to talk s*** about someone else to keep yourself relevant, that's fine. It's not my vibe.

"Why can't you focus on yourself and all the positive things, rather than talk s*** about anyone else?

"I'm not about that. I'm in my little positive bubble and I stay firmly inside it. People just want to try to pop it sometimes but it's impenetrable, so no."
