Love Island host Maya Jama has insisted that she is 'really, really single' after rumours emerged that she was back with Stormzy. The 28-year-old, who is from Bristol, started dating Stormzy in 2015, with the couple spending four years together before calling it quits in 2019.
In 2021, Maya met NBA star Ben Simmons and the pair got engaged at Christmas that year. But the couple never made it to their wedding day, as it was reported in August last year that they had called things off due to their conflicting schedules, as Ben lived in the US whilst Maya pursued her career in the UK.
Maya was spotted at the same events as Stormzy in late 2022, with the pair reportedly leaving within moments of each other at an awards show party, and chatting and hugging in the O2 Arena's VIP section during a Kendrick Lamar concert in November. After rumours emerged that Maya and Stormzy had rekindled their relationship, Maya has shut down all speculation ahead of her Love Island debut next week.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Maya said: "I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month, but it’s nice."
During the interview, Maya reflected on her relationship with 'Vossi Bop' rapper Stormzy, saying that they were 'just little babies' when they started dating. She said: "We were so young when we met, just beginning our careers.
"I was starting at MTV. He'd not even released a single at that point. We were just little babies.
"I don't think either of us knew it was going to be such a big thing. We were just: we're young and in love and we're going to go for it and work really hard. We're just together. We never really did red carpets. We didn't do any of that stuff."
As the rumours emerged a couple of months ago that Maya and Stormzy were back together, a representative for the former BBC Radio 1 presenter said that they were 'false' and that the former flames 'remain great friends'. Maya's new Love Island role was announced in October 2022, a short while after Laura Whitmore confirmed that she would be leaving the show after three series.
