Love Island's Maya Jama destroys clueless troll after 'no apparent talent' comment

Maya Jama has been praised by fans after shutting down a troll who accused her of having "no apparent talent". The Love Island host, 28, is currently dividing her time between Majorca and London for the main ITV2 show and recap discussion show Aftersun.

Although already known to and loved by the adoring public, Bristol-born Maya's new role as the host of Love Island has, arguably, cemented her as a household name in the UK. Fans were sent into a frenzy last year when ITV announced, following the departure of Laura Whitmore, that it would be Maya slow-mo strutting into the villa to deliver big news and bombshells for the foreseeable future.

But, despite the overwhelming amount of support Maya receives from fans and Love Island viewers, the star still receives the odd hate comment. The former Radio 1 host dazzled fans yesterday (June 18) with breathtaking snaps from the National Gallery's Summer Party, to which she wore an elegant red dress and effortless glam.

Whilst Maya's supporters fawned over her, one person somehow found her page and, rather than using it to educate themselves on who she was, took aim at the ex-Cotham School pupil for "having no apparent talent of any kind". In a now-deleted comment, the account wrote: "Such a weird culture we live in when such people are given such privilege despite having no apparent talent of any kind. It used to matter what a person said or did in order to become well-known."

"Now all we do is elevate and celebrate people that merely look 'good'," they added, with an "eye roll" emoji.

Maya decided to educate the commenter on her incredible career, before sarcastically snubbing her achievements. "I actually moved from home at 16 and started on YouTube and then hosted a shown on Rinsefm for a few years before hosting on MTV and then 4music," Maya casually hit back.

"Had a shown on BBC radio 1 for a couple years and hosted about 100 tv shows & currently hosting 1 of the biggest shows in the UK but yeah Google will tell you anything else you need to know. Defo no hard graft though purely just my face x."

It was revealed by ITV last week that, despite initial reports that Love Island's ratings were down, updated figures including ITVX statistics revealed that a whopping three million viewers tuned in for the Love Island series 10 launch two weeks ago. It looks as though Maya may have saved the show, as the series premiere attracted the biggest 16-24 TV audience since the World Cup in 2022.
