Maya Jama has warned everyone to be 'careful with what you are posting' after recalling her encounter with a stalker several years ago. The new Love Island presenter was once terrorised by a man who pretended to be related to her and even found out where she was living at the time.
Maya told the Daily Star that the obsessed fan in question was brought to her table at the International Somali Awards after claiming to be the Bristolian bombshell's brother. Recalling the unnerving situation to the publication, Maya said: "I was like, 'Who are you?'.
"I hugged him because I assumed I'd already met him. I was like, 'How come you are here?'"

Maya said that things 'got a bit weird' when the stalker replied that he had 'come to see' her. She also explained that the man came to other events that she was in at in a desperate bid to meet up with her.
The now 28-year-old then discovered that he had been tracking her movements via social media. At the time, Maya was much more open about where she was, and would often upload videos to her Snapchat story of her walking down the road she lived on.
She said: "If you knew that road, you would be able to clock. He had DM'd my friend who I lived with at the time, saying, ‘I am near your house'."
The ordeal happened to Maya when she was in her early 20s. It caused her to become more wary about the world of showbiz, and what she should and shouldn't post, for her own safety.
Maya explained: "After that, I became more careful. It can happen to everyone. You might not be online and you can have a stalker. Everyone should be careful with what you are posting."
Now that she is the host of Love Island and a household name, Maya is considered to be more of a target for stalkers and crazed fans. So far, Maya has only made one appearance on the show, during the series nine premiere on Monday night.
However, fans are excited to see more of the presenter tonight, as they prepare for the recoupling. After flawlessly pulling off three jaw-dropping looks on Monday night, viewers can't wait to see what Maya will be wearing tonight.
Love Island continues tonight, January 20, at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
