Love Island's Liam Llewellyn quizzed over 'accent change' during bombshell dates

Love Island contestant Liam Llewellyn has opened up on his time in the villa after his early departure. The Welsh star decided to quit the ITV2 dating show after just one week, telling his fellow Islanders he hadn't been giving "100% Liam".

Following his exit, the 22-year-old thanked fans for the "love and support" and did his first post-villa interview on the show's spin-off, Love Island: Aftersun. Appearing via video link from Newport, Liam said it had been a "big eye-opener" for him to see how many people had his back.

The Islander also reacted to finding out that Gemma Owen, who he was originally coupled up with, has a very famous father. The 19-year-old is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen.

Liam, who is the son of a former Welsh rugby star, said: "I can't believe who that actually was. That's mad."

"I'm a United fan. I actually have one of his tops when he came to the club. That first night, we were chatting about football and her family. I was so close. I can't believe I didn't quite work it out."

Liam was also quizzed about his change in accent during his dates with Afia Tonkmor and Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu. The Welsh contestant was chosen by the public to go out with the two bombshells after Davide Sanclimenti, 27, re-coupled with his partner Gemma, leaving Liam single.

But during the dates, many people took to social media to point out Liam's voice had changed when speaking to the girls. "Could someone please turn the volume up on Liam pls," wrote one viewer at the time.

While another added: "It is just me or is Liam putting on a weird accent." During his time on the spin-off show, Liam was asked about the accent change.

Comedian Darren Harriot, who was part of the panel asked: "You went on a date with Ekin-Su and during the date, your voice changed, it went really low. Did you fancy Ekin-Su? Is that why your voice just went down and sexy?"

"I didn't even notice that," Liam responded. He added: "I'm putting it down to the fact... I don't think you realise how close we sit. She was basically on my lap, so I didn't feel like I wanted to project my voice to hurt her ears."

He continued: "I was just speaking at what I thought was a normal tone."

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
