Love Island's Laura Whitmore laughs off claims that she gets paid £744 a second for ITV show

Love Island's Laura Whitmore has responded to claims that she earns £744 per second for her time on the ITV2 dating show. The presenter's salary has long been the subject of debate, as viewers have claimed she has a limited role in the series.

Following a report from The Sun about her salary, Laura wrote on Instagram stories: "£744 a second! I feel sorry for whoever was made to attempt the ridiculous maths based on nothing but speculation," before joking: "Lads I've made 10k whilst writing this story!" The aforementioned report claimed that Laura has earned £600,000, despite only appearing on Love Island for 14 minutes.

She then reposted one of her TikTok videos where she hit back at comments accusing her of having the "easiest job on the telly" and "gets paid 50K a minute". She accompanied the video with the text: "Firstly, Iain (Stirling, her husband and co-host) has never had any attention on money he earns. Why don't we like women earning money? I bloody wish I earned what was written in the press. I only get paid on days I work."

Laura took over from previous host Caroline Flack who died in February 2020. Aside from her role hosting the main show, Laura also presents Love Island: Aftersun on a Sunday night.

The presenter's decision to fly to and from Majorca to film Love Island, has come under fire. In the past, Laura has responded to this decision by saying that it is a more "efficient" way of making the show.

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
