Love Island's Jacques makes candid admission during 'uncomfortable' Laura Whitmore interview

Jacques O'Neill has admitted he needs to 'do a lot of work' on himself during an interview with Love Island host Laura Whitmore which some viewers deemed too uncomfortable to watch.

It's been nearly a week since the rugby player made the decision to quit the ITV show, with both him and love interest Paige Thorne in tears as he revealed his decision to leave after over a month in the villa. Jacques walked out in emotional and, speaking out about his departure at the weekend, said that doing Love Island was the 'worst decision' of his life.

Writing at length on Instagram, the 23-year-old admitted h e'd watched some episodes and found them a tough watch, posting: "I’ve watched back the episodes that I got the most hate for and listen I understand why I did. I’ve got a lot of work to do for myself to become a better person. I know my family come out and said about my ADHD while I was in the villa but that is no excuse for me.

"Yes, I might find certain things a lot more difficult than others but at the end of the day I need to take responsibility for my own actions and I’ll hold my hands up."

Jacques' first TV appearance after his exit came on Sunday's Aftersun, when presenter Laura asked him how he was feeling about everything now, with him telling her: I've got a lot of work to do on myself and I know that, and if that’s what I've got out of this show and this experience, I'm gonna be a better person."

Things got very awkward in the studio when Laura showed Jacques a clip of Paige kissing Adam Collard, the former Islander who made his return to the show just a day before Jacques walked. Reacting to the clip in diplomatic fashion, Jacques commented: "We had a good connection and were really getting on. I did see things on the outside working between us but as I say, she's doing what she needs to do."

Viewers watching at home said it was 'obvious' Jacques wasn't in a good place and found the whole chat with Laura to be very uncomfortable viewing, with some arguing that she should have taken him to task for some of his behaviour towards Paige.
