Love Island narrator Iain Stirling offended legions of Newcastle United fans during Monday night's show, with a savage dig at Gemma Owen's dad Michael once playing for them.
While Gemma has still to mention who her dad is, despite making it blatantly obvious during a chat with Luca last week, everyone on the outside world knows, making her the most talked about Love Island contestant so far this year. As well as having a football icon for a dad, Gemma is also a sports star in her own right, competing internationally as a dressage rider.
And it was when referencing her link to horses, that Love Island narrator Iain took aim at Newcastle, who Gemma's dad famously signed for in the summer of 2005. As Gemma and Luca headed for a chat, comedian and other half of the ITV2 show's host Laura Whitmore, remarked: "Luca's grabbed Gemma for a catch up. Gemma was telling me today that she once joined a pony club. Coincidently her dad Michael once joined a pony club...it's called Newcastle United."

Iain's comment was jumped on by viewers online, with one reacting: "Errrrr I think @IainDoesJokes has just p**sed off a lot of Newcastle fans," with another tweeting: " @IainDoesJokes I had a lot of respect for you until that Newcastle comment."
Equally blindsided and annoyed by Iain's dig, a third responded: "whoa whoa whoa Stirling what's with the Newcastle United disrespect??" Another furiously posted: "Eff off @IainDoesJokes ya pr**k! Lol!Don’t call #nufc when owen was the proper d*c*kheed when at Newcastle. Proper rubbish joke mate!"
Michael Owen's near four year career with Newcastle was marred by injury, before he finally make a surprise switch to Manchester United in 2009, the year the Magpies were relegated.
