Love Island's George Fensom responds as fans call for him to be axed over messages

Brand new Love Island contestant George Fensom has responded to the controversy which has led to calls for him to be removed from the show just moments into the first episode of the 2023 summer series.

The new star, George, aged 24, from Bedford, was immediately coupled up by the public vote with Jess - someone who viewers felt he wasn't actually that keen on going by his body language.

But many online immediately called for George to be axed with some predicting he would 'disappear' in a few episodes due to the backlash.

George has previously addressed the row surrounding homophobic posts from his now-deleted Twitter account.

One tweet said: "Shut up you f****t," and a second read: "Same gay tweets day in day out."

Before he went into the villa, ITV had told him that the footage and comments had resurfaced online in the run up to the new series being aired on ITV2 and ITVX.

He said: "In regards to the account, it's really unfortunate that it's been brought up because that isn't the person that I am today

"Looking back on those tweets, I was really naive and really young to think that was the right thing to say.

"It's one of them situations, it doesn't show the man that I am today in any way, shape or form and that's pretty much it."

Furious viewers went to Twitter to call for George to go.
