Love Island's Gemma Owen target of Ofcom complaints over Davide 'age gap' kiss

A kiss between Gemma Owen and Davide Sanclimenti has sparked close to 200 of complaints from Love Island viewers, who followed through on their promise to contact Ofcom, after being left uncomfortable by the age gap between the two.

On their first day in the villa, this year's contestants were told that, rather than them choosing for themselves who to couple up with, viewers made the decision for them. Fans decided that, on first impressions, Gemma, 19, was best suited to Welsh masters student Liam Llewelyn, however her head was turned when Davide, the first Love Island bombshell of 2022 gate-crashed the party.

Michael Owen's daughter Gemma made it clear to everyone, particularly Liam, who quit the villa days later, that she was attracted to late arrival Davide, 27 and, made her intentions clear when she decided to kiss him during an ice breaker game. A day later Davide, who described himself as 'an Italian snack,' decided to couple up with Gemma , but many Love Island fans were already claiming that them being together didn't 'sirt right,' with them and threatened to go to Ofcom should things develop further.

One tweeted: “ if gemma and davide end up together the ofcom complaints are gunna be WILD it’s just so wrong.” Feeling the same way, another uncomfortable viewer reacted: “ I’m sorry but how old is Davide, because if he’s over 25 and he ends up with Gemma, i’m definitely complaining with OFCOM.” However, taking a completely different stance, another Twitter user fired back: “My sisters 10 years younger than her husband, would you complain to OFCOM?”

And it has now been confirmed that broadcasting regulator Ofcom received 167 complaints about the episode in question. The Mirror reports that, overall, the programme received 167 complaints for its episode of June 7 over the ages of the contestants on the show and this was the episode where we saw Gemma, 19, and Davide, 27, kiss.

The show also received a number of complaints - 93 in total - for its show on June 12, with most of these in relation to the ages of the contestants.

News of the Ofcom complaints about Gemma and Davide comes as age gap concerns have been raised about Gemma and her ex Jacques O'Neill, who entered the villa as a bombshell on Sunday. After 'doing the math,' Love Island viewers claim to have worked out that Gemma, who as just turned 19, was only 16 when they datewd.
