Love Island ’s Gemma Owen has only won three dressage competitions in seven years, despite claiming she’s a hugely successful champion.
The 19-year-old, who is the daughter of former footballer Michael Owen, said in her interview before she entered the villa that she had “travelled all across Europe competing in big arenas in big competitions”.
But according to The Sun, she’s only won three competitions in the last seven years, with her last victory in 2020.
According to the FEI database, run by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports, Gemma also won two competitions in March 2017.
And in her last global competition, she finished in 46th place.
Gemma and her horse Sirius Black, named after a character in the Harry Potter novels, have competed up to inter I level, according to Horse & Hound , and competed in January this year, scoring a personal best of 73.53%.
She last competed in March, just weeks before entering the Spanish villa, at the Myerscough Premier League in March, where she finished third in the team and individual young rider events.
Gemma’s passion for horses has been passed down from her mum Louise, who rescues retired racehorses.
She set up the Manor House Stables in Cheshire in 2007 with husband Michael, who said the “joy of owning a racehorse is indescribable”.
Gemma even has her own Instagram account dedicated to her dressage career, called @gemowendressage_ and she regularly shared updates from her stables before entering the Love Island villa.
The 19-year-old is currently at the centre of a controversial coupling in the villa, after 27-year-old Italian hunk Davide Sanclimenti chose to steal her from Liam on Tuesday.
