A dating expert has given her brutal verdict on Love Island star Gemma Owen ’s behaviour around Luca Bish compared to Jacques O’Neill.
The brunette bombshell, 19, has left ITV2 viewers baffled over her lack of eye contact with the Brighton fishmonger compared to her flirty exchanges with her rugby player ex.
Dating expert Lara Besbrode has now said her behaviour could be down to her “hiding a secret”, given that none of the Islanders seem to have yet been told her father is footballer Michael Owen.
Lara told OK! : “Often when we're not being fully truthful with people it affects our behaviour and she'll be avoiding eye contact for fear of getting found out.
“If she connects through eye contact then the next logical step is to have deeper conversations, which inevitably leads to questions about your parents and family.
“Gemma seems to be avoiding that topic at all costs, but it could jeopardise her relationships if she doesn't open up.”
The dating expert and founder of The Matchmaker UK added: “We've seen her enjoying conversations with Jacques because she's comfortable in his presence – he's familiar and she knows that she can trust him.
“We also have to remember that Gemma will have had a very different upbringing to the other islanders and may be more cautious when it comes to opening up, being vulnerable and truly connecting with her partner.”
Lara described Gemma as ‘wise for her age’, but said that maturity ‘seems to disappear’ when she is with one of the boys she is coupled up with, such as Luca or previously Davide Sanclimenti.
“Although the age gap between Gemma and Luca is only four years, it does make a huge difference when she's in her late teens and he's in his early 20s,” she said.
She added: “She won't have had as much life experience as Luca or as many partners as him and therefore may feel less confident around him because she doesn't know what she wants, which is normal for a 19 year old. Who knows what they want at 19!”
This comes after Love Island fans went wild last night when Luca finally called Gemma out with a savage dig over her not receiving enough attention.
International dressage rider Gemma was the only girl not be asked by bombshells Remi and Jay to go on a date and she watched from the balcony along with the boys.
Luca seemingly addressed this, as the pair sat down for a chat and Gemma said: "I don’t want to feel that’s us two married off now and that’s it."
Luca replied: "Why are we married off? Because two boys have come in here and not given you attention?"
One fan took to Twitter to write: "Lol love that Luca called out Gemma so perfectly at her being mardy about the fact the other boys ignored her. She is not used to being overlooked."
Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
