A week after viewers raised concerns about the age difference between her and Davide Sanclimenti, Germma Owen is at the centre of another Love Island age gap 'issue' concerning her and ex Jacques O'Neill.
Gemma, daughter of football legend Michael Owen, was born in May 2003, making her just 19., so a few eyebrows were raised when she had her head turned at the end of her first night in the villa by Italian Davide, who, at 27,. is eight years her senior. Some fans claimed they were so uncomfortable about that age gap that they were ready 'to call Ofcom,' should the relationship develop any further.
A few days later, Gemma and Davide ceased to be an item after she was chosen by Luca Bish to couple up with him, with Davide now paired with bombshell Ekin-Su after she pursued him. There was another twist in the week one tail for Gemma on Sunday night when her ex Jacques went into the villa, dating two of the other girls right in front of her face.
Rugby players Jacques has been released from his contract by Castleford Tigers to go onto Love Island and was rumoured to have dated Gemma a few years ago, before, as Gemma hinted they broke up "a year and a half ago." Jacques is 23 now and now viewers, who've try and put two and two together on how old they were when they dated, are slightly concerned when realising she could have only been 16 and him 21.
Taking to Twitter, one posted: "So why is no one in the villa weirded out by Gemma and Jacques’ age gap? Is no one doing the math," with another reacting: "anyone gonna do the maths on jacques & gemma’s age gap?… she would’ve been roughly 16 when he was roughly 21… yeah no not sitting right w' me."
A third tweeted: "Hold onnnnnnnnn. Gemma and Jacques broke up a year and a half ago and there’s a 4 year age gap. She’s just turned 19 and he’s 23," but, questioning people's anxiety over age gap, another viewer posted: "Not sure why everyone is losing their minds over the Gemma / Jacques age gap, a lot more common than everyone is making out."
