Love Island's Gemma and Davide address 'age gap' after viewer concerns

Gemma Owen and Davide Sanclimenti addressed the age gap between them on Thursday' Love Island, after some concerned viewers threatened to contact Ofcom.

Gemma, the daughter of football legend Michael Owen, has only just turned 19, having been born in May 2003, while Italian late arrival to the Love Island villa Davide, is 27. Viewers first declared they felt uncomfortable about the two growing close after Gemma kissed Davide in a drinking game on their first night in the show.

One took to Twitter to react: “I’m sorry but how old is Davide, because if he’s over 25 and he ends up with Gemma, i’m definitely complaining with OFCOM," with another tweeting: "if gemma and davide end up together the ofcom complaints are gunna be WILD it’s just so wrong."

However, taking a completely different stance, another Twitter user fired back: “My sisters 10 years younger than her husband, would you complain to OFCOM?”

Love Island fans weren't entirely sure of Davide was even aware of the eight-year age gap between him and Gemma, who was rattled by new arrival Ekin-Su, but it came to the fore during a candid chat between the two on Thursday's show.

Davide asked Gemma: "What do you think about the fact I'm much older than you? I mean, you are not bothered about that?" The teenager replied: "No, it's not an issue for me at all. I feel like if it was I wouldn't have wanted to get to know you in the first place."

She continued: "And, as I've said before, I've been speaking to guys and seeing guys that...," as Davide interrupted: "Are much older than you?"

Assuring him, Gemma added: "It's not something that I'm not used to or you're the only one or anything like that. It's very normal for me, so for me, it's not an issue"
