Love Island return date 'confirmed' as Maya Jama 'chomping at bit' for new summer series

Reports suggest that the summer edition of Love Island could hit our screens sooner rather than later. There are rumours circulating that the islanders may be returning to the villa in just eight weeks time.

ITV has said that this year's contestants have already been lined up for a spell in Majorca. However, the broadcaster has not confirmed rumours that the hit summer show, hosted by Bristol's Maya Jama, will return on June 5.

As reported by The Mirror, sources suggest that this is the date that the show could start ahead of the eight-week series. A source told the Sun that ITV have already lined-up the islanders who will be taking part.

The source said: "[They] will fly out late next month ready for the show to begin in just eight weeks. It is hugely exciting and those working on the show cannot wait to get started."

The source added that host Maya is "chomping at the bit to get to work" on the new series. They added that ratings are expected to "soar" in the summer series given her involvement.

However, ITV is yet to confirm the exact dates for the new series. A source said: "The dates have not been officially confirmed."

Maya had previously suggested that she would return to host the upcoming summer edition of Love Island. She took over from Laura Whitmore earlier this year and fronted the recent winter series.

Sharing photos from the behind-the-scenes, the TV presenter wrote in a post just last month: "[I had the] best time ever [and I] can't wait to do it all over in the summer".
