Love Island producer confirms fan favourite challenge to be axed

A Love Island producer confirmed the show would be axing one segment this summer, to the dismay of some fans.

Summer reality television is back with a bang, as Love Island hits our screens on June 6 and fans couldn't be happier. After the news broke on Twitter, speculation has been rife over who this summer's contestants will be.

Despite the overwhelming hype and anticipation for the new series, fans are in store for some massive changes. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), executive producer Mike Spencer opened the floor to answer fans' burning questions.

One of the show's stand out segments is the 'food fight' which sees contestants throw and spit food into each other's mouths. Though a staple from the beginning, it seems the 2022 series will not be keeping the tradition alive.

Reddit user Roxygen1 said: "Please can you stop making people spit food into each other's mouths."

Mike added: "We are stepping away from the food challenges as we know them."

The news split fans in the comments section as some bid good riddance to the challenge whereas others said they will miss it. Mike went on to answer questions including what this season had in store for viewers but kept the finer details under wraps.
