Love Island host Maya Jama makes epic entrance in helicopter on ninth series premiere

Maya Jama might have outdone herself with her entrance into ITV Love Island's ninth series this evening (January 16). The Bristol-born host, 28, smashes another glass ceiling as she makes her way to the villa in a helicopter - a limousine clearly just didn't quite cut it.

However, it seems to have been very much in keeping with the villa for this year's winter series, which boasts its own rugby pitch as well as a full Olympic-size swimming pool.

First we will see the boys arriving one by one to their luxurious new home. Shaq and Haris arrive together before welcoming Will, then Ron, then Kai, then Maya, via air, in true telly extravangance.

She wastes no time in getting to know their motives for appearing on the programme. Despite their universal youth, this year's entrants all seem to be the homely type.

Kai, a semi-professional rugby player from Manchester says he is "looking for a wifey" and Haris, a TV salesman from Doncaster, says he has "never been in a relationship". Will tells Maya: “I wanna settle down, I think it’s time to bring a girl back, introduce them to the animals.”

Shaq, who estimates he's already done around 75 press-ups that morning, keeps it simple: “I go for more personality and vibes but she’s definitely got to be funny, funny is top of my list, I love it.”

As the islanders get to know each other as evening falls, it won't be long until the public are let at the phones to vote for the first bombshell of the series... who will it be?

Love Island airs tonight at 9.00pm on ITV2 and ITVX
