Love Island host Maya Jama lifts lid on split with Ben Simmons amid Stormzy rumours

Maya Jama has confirmed her split with basketball star Ben Simmons, after speculation the pair had gone their separate ways.

The new Love Island host, 27, described herself as "really single" following reports she and Ben had broken up after dating for over a year, due to their busy work lives.

In August, it was understood Maya and the sportsman had called off their engagement, but in a new interview Maya said she had been single for only a month.

Her comments also poured cold water over fan hopes that she and her ex, superstar rapper Stormzy are back together, following their split in 2019.

Speaking to the Sunday Times' Style magazine, Maya said: "I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month.. but it’s nice."

Neither Ben nor Maya officially announced their engagement, but the brunette bombshell subtly flashed her huge diamond ring on the red carpet of the BRIT Awards back in February.

The star had kept her romance with Ben mainly under wraps - although she did sometimes treat her adoring followers to a glimpse inside her relationship on Instagram, wishing him happy birthday in July 2021.

Fans were hoping that Maya and Stormzy, who dated for four years, had reconciled after being pictured at the same events in recent months.

They were spotted at the GQ Men of The Year Awards, The Fashion Awards, and also a Kendrick Lamar concert at The O2 - where the pair were spotted sharing a hug, almost four years on from their seemingly bitter split.

After the famous duo were pictured at the GQ awards, a source claimed they were back together, but Maya's team shot the rumour down.

Her reps told The Mirror that the former couple are ‘not romantically together’ despite the recent outings.

The pair first met in October 2014, before they publicly started dating in January 2015, with Stormzy's music career just taking off.

After some time, the couple took the next step in their relationship as they moved in together in a swanky London property.

In an interview on Charlamagne tha God's YouTube channel in January 2020, Stormzy denied cheating on Maya but said he was inconsiderate after their break up.

He said:" I swear to God, I didn't cheat. So we had broken up and I was out publicly being a rapper, being very inconsiderate to the fact that I've just come out of the most public relationship.

"We'd broken up and I went out and I acted disrespectfully. I was just out in clubs. I knew the world still thought I was in a relationship and I was out looking like I didn't give a f**k.

"It didn't need to be cheating for it to be a disrespect," he added.
