Laura Whitmore has revealed that the more humorous aspects of Love Island don’t make the final edit of the hit reality programme.
She shared that the show is “largely about the edit” with viewers only getting a specific insight into the drama that unfolds throughout the day. The 37-year-old Love Island host told Newstalk host Pat Kenny that the Saturday edition of the show, which shows clips that never made it to air, is one of her favourite segments of the reality series.
She also added she believes people would likely enjoy a livestream version of the programme if it were to be introduced. She said: “You have people in there who have great fun. I love the Saturday edition of the show.

"It’s called Unseen Bits and it shows all the funny clips that aren’t really connected to the love stories. I would gladly watch all the other stuff as well, which is why we do the Saturday show,” she told listeners.
Laura says that contestants sometimes try and cover their mics when disclosing something to another cast member, but that it will always get picked up by producers. She also shared some of her opinions on this year’s contestants, remarking that she thinks couple Davide and Ekin-Su are popular with viewers as a result of their “journey.”
She also praised contestant Gemma Owen, one of the breakout stars of this year’s competition, for being mature beyond her years. The 19-year-old is the daughter of footballer Michael Owen and her age was a matter of fierce scrutiny online, with many viewers arguing that she was too young to participate in the divisive series.
“I still can’t believe she’s 19. When I was her age I did not have that head on my shoulders,” Laura said jokingly on air.
Laura’s introduction to the world of media came through an internship with Newstalk following college. She later moved to London to pursue a career with MTV.
Love Island airs on Virgin Media 2 at 9pm Monday to Friday.
