Love Island has received more than 200 complaints in its first week. The series, which returned on Sunday, June 5, has drawn particular criticism for a kiss between Gemma Owen, 19, and Davide Sanclimenti, 27.
Overall, the programme received 167 complaints for its episode on June 7 over the age gap between the kissing contestants. The show received a further 93 complaints for its June 12 episode, with most of these also in relation to the ages of the contestants.
Gemma's entrance into the Love Island villa hasn't been without controversy. The 19-year-old, who is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen, has already been partnered with three people and one of those quit the villa of their own accord. The Islander, who is the youngest Love Island has ever seen, is currently in a couple with fishmonger Luca Bish. Earlier in the week, she was shocked to find out that her ex-boyfriend, Jacques O'Neill, had arrived on the Island.

Meanwhile, Davide, who Gemma initially had a spark with, is now partnered with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu but her eyes could be turned by newcomer Jacques. The introduction of Gemma's former flame, Jacques, has seemingly concerned Luca. Further fuel was added to the fire when Gemma accidentally called him by her ex's name.
The age gap between Davide and Gemma has been highlighted on social media. One person said: "There's no chemistry between Gemma and Davide at all. The chat is dead plss it's giving me parent-teacher conference."
Another person picked up on Ekin-Su's chat with Gemma and said: "Ekin-Su basically told Gemma she's a small girl that needs to sit down and leave the adults alone. I love her."
Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm
