Love Island received 260 Ofcom complaints in its first week of airing on ITV2.

The show began airing season 8 on June 6 and has caused controversy ever since in relation to the age gap of two contestants, Gemma Owen, 19, and Davide Sanclimenti, 27.

The broadcast regulatory body, Ofcam, received 167 complaints relating to an episode on June 7 and 93 complaints for an episode five days later, a complaints report published on Wednesday reveals.

The majority of complaints in the report relate to a contestant’s age.

In the June 7 episode, viewers watched as football icon Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma kissed Italian bombshell Davide, who is eight years her senior.

The international dressage rider was picked out by Davide after he arrived on the show and could choose who to be paired with.

But the coupling swiftly ended and Davide moved on to to Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, whilst Gemma coupled up with Luca Bish because her initial partner, Liam Llewellyn, left the show.

In the latest drama involving Gemma, the teen accidentally called Luca by her ex boyfriend’s name, Jacques O’Neill, who also happens to be on the show as a contestant.

Love Island has also received 93 complaints for an episode that aired on June 12, with most of those also relating to the large age gap between contestants.
