Love Island first look: Michael Owen shares pride in daughter Gemma as her mum turns up at villa

This year's Love Island's winners are on the brink of being announced, but not before the Islanders come face to face with each other's parents. The annual 'family and friends' episode is due to air on Sunday, July 31.

One meeting that viewers have been dying to see is that of Gemma Owen's family and her partner, Luca Bish. Throughout the course of the series, fans have been desperate to know if Gemma's father, football legend Michael Owen, would be making an appearance during the series. Unfortunately, Michael won't be calling in but Gemma's mum, Louise, and her friend, Sarah, will turn up at the villa.

Of her father, Louise tells Gemma: “Honestly, he is really proud of you, really proud.” She adds of the family: “They’re all loving watching you, they’re missing you like mad.”

Gemma, 19, has repeatedly told Luca, 23, that she wants to get her mother's approval before she gets in a relationship and with her arrival at the villa, she is about to get just that. Whilst it remains to be seen what she will say, Luca’s dad, Michael, says of Gemma: “She puts you straight doesn’t she.”

Over the course of the series, viewers have watched Gemma and Luca's relationship grow from strength to strength. Whilst the pair have had a few bust-ups along the way, recent episodes have seen the pair go on their final date and tell each other that they "love" one another.

As Love Island gears towards its final, Sunday's episode will see the Islanders find out which couples have been dumped from the villa. On Friday, July 29, the couples had to vote for which couples they thought were "least compatible".

Gemma and Luca received three votes from their fellow Islanders. Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti received four votes, Paige Thorne and Adam Collard got two votes, and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page got one. The only pairing who didn’t receive any votes were Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope, meaning their place in the Majorcan villa is safe.

Love Island concludes at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub on Monday, August 1. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
