Love Island fans think they have worked out why Michael Owen has not been mentioned on the show

The new set of islanders have been in the Love Island villa for over two weeks now and still nobody has mentioned Gemma Owen's dad Michael. Viewers have been eagerly awaiting the moment her fellow islanders find out who she is but Gemma is yet to tell them.

Now fans of the show think they have worked out why the news has not been revealed about her famous family. Fans have suggested that it could have been a prerequisite for her appearing on the show.

Some Love Island fans on Reddit think they have worked it all out, reports The Mirror one fan said: "If her family paid [ ITV ] money not to air [Gemma talking about Michael] then we won’t see it. I think it’s pretty obvious that some sort of deal was struck regarding her time on the island.”

Another fan added: "There’s no way someone with that much money and power enters into a competition like [Love Island] without insurance.” Despite the theories there is no evidence to suggest an agreement is in place.

Love Island fans have been speculating about how Gemma ended up on the ITV2 dating show. One fan said: "Gemma will have had a sweetheart deal struck up somehow between her lawyers and ITV to ensure she gets x-amount of attention per episode, is only shown favourably, one of her clothing lines is pushed.”

Another fan added: “I reckon Michael Owen has paid Love Island a fortune to get Luca out of his daughter’s bed!" Yet another added: "Low-key convinced Michael Owen has paid ITV to give Gemma all the screen time to try [and] make her the new Molly-Mae.”

These suggestions come after it is being reported that the Love Island producers are doing all they can to get Michael into the villa for the "meet the parents" episode. That episode will come in the last week if Gemma is still on the show.

Marcel Somerville appeared on the show back in 2017 and he has said that producers are desperate to give Gemma a positive storyline after fans took an instant dislike to her at the start of the series. Speaking at the launch of Poke House Covent Garden he said: "What Love Island want to do is have Michael Owen walk through the doors – that’s going to be TV gold.”

“Their goal is to have a hero arc and I feel like it’s coming along. She’s a person they want to turn into a main character – they put her ex-boyfriend in the villa for a reason, as she’s got more dimensions to her.

“At first, she came across snotty and like she’s entitled, but now she’s coming across more normal.” Back in 2018 Danny Dyer Skype called his daughter Dani to say that he approved of her boyfriend.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
