Love Island fans think producers told Sammy Root to apologise to Catherine Agbaje

Love Island fans are convinced ITV producers forced to Sammy to apologise to Catherine over comments he made regarding her partner Scott not finding her attractive.

Drama unfolded during a twist on Tuesday that saw each Islander declare who they believed the least compatible couples were.

Tension mounted amongst contestants as they sat by the villa's fire pit as each couple put forward their thoughts.

The two couples with the most votes - Sammy and Jess, and Mitchel and Leah - were then told by host Maya Jama that their relationships were over and they were not permitted to recouple with each other.

Explaining his vote, Sammy commented that he couldn't see a spark between the pair as he didn't believe footballer Scott was attracted to her.

Scott later addressed the matter, meanwhile, telling Sammy: "I did want to pull you up on something. When you said that I am not physically attracted to Catherine and we have no physical touch, I didn’t like it."

In response, Sammy simply explained: "At the end of the day that’s from my point of view."

And Catherine soon weighed in and fiercely defended her fledgling relationship with Scott, adding: "My feelings are obviously there. That physical attraction comment did upset me."

Later in the episode, however, as Catherine broke down in tears, Sammy took her aside to offer an apology and an explanation.

He told her: "I wanna start off by just saying I'm not great at expressing my words on a daily basis. It wasn't that I'm trying to say that Scott wasn't attracted to you - you're a beautiful girl and he's clearly very attracted to you.

"All I meant from the situation was I didn't think you two were so touchy-feely and I got my words a bit mixed up and came across the wrong way.

"I want to apologise if I did make you feel upset."

The apology clearly caught fans by surprise, who soon took to Twitter to offer their thoughts on the matter - with the majority suggesting the show had made Sammy say sorry.

"Guess the producers saw our tweets and spoke with him. This won’t save him!!!" commented one viewer.

Another wrote: "All natural from his own will… no producer intervention."

A third added: "Producers probably told him to apologize...."

And a fourth said: "The producers definitely said something to him."

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
