Love Island fans slam show for 'humiliating' Danica with 'uncomfortable' spoof clips

Love Island fans were left fuming on Sunday evening as Laura Whitmore interviewed Danica Taylor on Aftersun following her exit from the ITV2 dating show.

The dancer appeared on the programme alongside footballer Jamie Allen and the pair were treated to their Love Island highlight reel on the show spin-off.

The show then played a clip of Danica being rejected time after time on the show in a Mission Impossible spoof clip, which saw her flirtations with the likes of Luca Bish, Andrew Le Page and Davide Sanclimenti break down.

As Danica was shown looking slightly uncomfortable during the clips, Aftersun viewers took to Twitter to slam the show for “humiliating” the star.

One wrote: “I’m sorry I don’t find this reel entertaining… Danica is clearly uncomfortable. They didn’t need to do all of that.”

A second wrote: “Can they not show Danica’s actual best bits ? Like don’t embarrass her with the rejections it’s so unkind.”

Another tweeted: “They’re doing a lot on Aftersun … trying to poke fun at Danica is funny for a bit but then it gets a bit awkward.”

“Do not like how Danica is getting treated on Aftersun. She's so nice and she's getting roasted,” another commented.

Another tweeted: “Yeah, I’m not here for them trying to humiliate Danica with that reel. Stop f***ing with my girl.”

Another wrote: “Why are they just showing Danica taking L’s in her best bits?” as another said: “I feel like they’re humiliating Danica, she looks and sounds uncomfortable.”

This comes after ITV boss Kevin Lygo has said the broadcaster will “sit down and review” Love Island when the series ends this year, following a barrage of viewer complaints to Ofcom.

The dating show has been the subject of more than 5,000 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom in the past two weeks.

Many have related to alleged misogynistic behaviour by some of the male contestants.

However, Mr Lygo, managing director of ITV Studios, stressed they were “very happy with the way it has gone so far”.

During a media briefing for ITV’s interim financial results, Mr Lygo was asked about the volume of complaints and whether there would be an editorial review.

He said: “We continually assess a programme as it is going on because it is one of these odd every night live sort of shows.

“But when the series comes to an end on Monday, we will always sit down and review what we think about it, what the reaction has been, how well it has done.

“And we have to say this year, remember, it is the best one we have had in many years and I think everyone is thoroughly enjoying it.

“To get five million people to watch a show every night at 9 o’clock is extraordinary in the modern era, so something is being done right.

“But you are right, we must always look to improve and work on what we have done. But we are very happy with the way it has gone so far.”
