Love Island fans have speculated that Laura Whitmore could be on the cards as the next Big Brother host after making the shock announcement she has quit the ITV2 dating show.
Big Brother is set to make a sensational comeback next year, leaving fans desperate to know who will host the original reality TV show when it returns to our screens.
Laura Whitmore, 37, took to Instagram on Monday evening to share the shock news of her departure with fans, saying she had decided to step back from the role she initially only intended to do for a year.
She wrote on Instagram: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.
"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.
"I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."
Fans of the show took to Twitter after the announcement to speculate on not only who could replace Laura as the host on the show, but also to discuss what the Irish presenter could do next.
Fans even think Laura could be stepping away from Love Island to flag up the highly-anticipated return of the iconic series Big Brother on the broadcaster.
One fan tweeted: “Nah… Laura Whitmore is gonna host Big Brother. Mark my words,” as a second chimed: “Laura Whitmore has left the presenting job on Love Island I bet the bookmakers are making her favourite to host the new Big Brother show.”
“Is Laura Whitmore stepping away from love island because she’s the new big brother presenter?” another fan asked.
Another wrote: “So who reckons Laura Whitmore is hosting Big brother, now she’s left Love Island?”
During the finale of Love Island this summer, ITV2 shared a short trailer for the upcoming 2023 season, confirming Big Brother has found a new home, following previous stints on Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Big Brother has not been on TV since 2018, when it was axed by Channel 5, but a ‘Big Brother for the Love Island generation’ is planned to be shown on ITV2 from next year.
