The new villa in South Africa for this winter’s series of Love Island has been taken to new levels. The mansion is the biggest yet with plenty of outside space and a stunning mountain backdrop - but one particular feature has left viewers puzzled.
There are many spots for the islanders to sun themselves but also some more secluded shady areas to escape the heat, as well as the swimming pool to cool off in. After last night's episode (January 18), it became one of the biggest talking points on social media.
Each villa used as part of the show has had the pool as a focal point, from the big round pool in season one and two to the blocky rectangle-shaped pool used in last year’s series. This year's pool is said to be Olympic sized, but it's the shallow water that has got viewers talking.

In a scene that aired in the third instalment of this year’s series last night, some Islanders were filmed standing in what was described by many as a "paddling pool", with the water reaching just above their knees.
Fans on the show headed straight to Twitter to share their thoughts to point fun at the scene. @iguessikstuff asked: “I’m sorry but is this pool made for elves? Like how are they supposed to swim in it when it’s 2 inches deep?”
@adelegrahamok questioned: “WHAT is this monstrosity of a paddling pool,” while @83VikiB echoed: “Why are they standing in a kids pool? #LoveIsland”

Some went as far as saying they looked like Sims characters, including @cherrycolaminx who likened the scene to: “When you force your Sims to swim after selling their pool ladder x #LoveIsland.”
The marketing images for the Ludus Magna villa, where the series is being filmed, shows one large T-shaped pool that appears to slope down from two shallow ends into the main swimming area. However, in the show it looks like the layout has been split into three with additional seating built over the top.
One viewer suggested there was a good reason for the shallow pool. @georgianaaaaaa_ tweeted: “I can’t lie the dipping pool is a good addition because everyone always asks why they are never in the water but it’s because they have to take off all their mic equipment…this [way] they don’t #LoveIsland”
So while it's not ideal for swimming there could be some sensible logic behind the idea. Viewers can catch the next episode tonight at 9pm on ITV2 or stream on ITVX.
