There was drama as Love Island aired its first recoupling of the 2023 winter series on Friday night (January 20). After four days of settling into life in the villa in South Africa, it was time for one Islander to be dumped from the ITV2 dating show.
The Islanders received a text about an impending recoupling. The girls were tasked with choosing who to couple-up with, with the boy not picked immediately leaving the Island.
In the evening the Islanders gathered around the fire pit for the results. Bombshell newcomer David Salako was sadly dumped, and the decision wasn't reached without drama.

Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins had just shared their first kiss after he had his head turned and was getting to know bombshell Zara Lackenby-Brown. But the sun lounger was pulled from under Lana again as, during the recoupling, Ron was 'stolen' from her by Tanyel Revan.
Lana was left in tears over the decision, but was next up to deliver her decision. "I have decided to couple up with this boy because, although this decision is s*** this guy has been consistently showing me a lot of attention and always really funny," she said, as she chose sheep farmer Will Young who has been a big hit with viewers.
The thanks and praise came pouring in on Twitter for Lana. @Paigedeservest1 cheered: "Our king has been saved." @_nina__x shouted: "FARMER WILL IS GOING NOWHERE!! THE VIBES ARE STAYING." And @minm1nszn said: "Lana my queen I love you so much for keeping Will in."
But other fans couldn't believe that Lana was feeling so attached to Ron after just a few days. @HurmusX tweeted: "Crying over man after 4 days LOOOOOL Lana be real."
@beingremz_ said: "Lana needs to get a grip. You live in the same house still. It’s not the end of the world." @Unconscious_Tlk urged: "Lana Mann, just pull it together, why you cryin it’s been a week like??" And @ThamHusband echoed: "Why is Lana crying and it’s only been 4 days…"
Other fans are worried how she might cope with the brutal Casa Amor stage later in the series, which brings in a villa full of newcomers to tempt the Islands after they have formed relationships.
Another fan @dshogss worried: "Lana crying from first recoupling? She’s not gonna handle casa amor." @msmasila agreed: "Lana will not be able to handle casa amor." @amirah04749007 asked: "WHY IS LANA CRYING LIKE THIS IS CASA AMOR?" But @naughtyavocadol sympathised: "Aw poor Lana, feel for her. I get attached to men in a few days too, it is what is is."
