Love Island fans joke Maya Jama will cause contestants to dump their partners for Bristolian presenter

Love Island fans have predicted that future Islanders will be trying to 'recouple' with new host Maya Jama after it was announced she will be the next host of the ITV2 show. Bristolian presenter Maya, who has previously hosted shows such as Walk The Line and Glow Up: Britain's Next Make Up Star, will be filling the shoes of Laura Whitmore, who had presented the dating show from 2020 until this year.

ITV2 and ITVX confirmed in a statement today that ex-Cotham School pupil Maya, 28, will be presenting the show from early 2023 onwards, sending fans crazy after much speculation. In a statement, Maya said of her new gig: "I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the Villa to meet all of the Islanders."

Love Island fanatics and fans of Maya have been reacting to the news on social media. Whilst many of them are excited, some have pointed out there may be 'a problem' with Maya presenting the hit show.

On Twitter, Lawrence Belcher wrote: "This is great, but I see a problem. Imagine you’re a contestant on the show and @MayaJama walks in… You’d be dumping your partner & trying to pull her for a chat instead."

EK D. Soulchild said: "Maya Jama is the love island host?? People should not be shocked when Mandem will go on it and ask to recouple with the host"

"Maya Jama hosting love island," said Milah. "See this is what we wanted from the get go."

Jasmine Walker wrote: "Maya Jama hosting Love Island and she’s gonna be hotter than any of the girls on the actual show".

"Terrible move… how can anyone expect to fall in love on that show when Maya keeps popping up ??" said Sashman. "I’m happily married and I love her !!! Huge distraction"

Love Island will return to South Africa for the first of two series in early 2023, in which lovestruck singletons will be guided through the twists and turns of coupling up in the iconic Villa surroundings by new host, Maya. Regarding Maya joining Love Island, Director of Reality Programming & Acquisitions and Controller, ITV2, ItvBe & CITV, Paul Mortimer said: "Finding a new host to follow the wonderful Laura Whitmore was never going to be easy.

"In Maya Jama though, we have another high profile fan of the show who’ll be a great addition to the Love Island family. Cool, charming and charismatic, I speak for us all when I say Maya will also bring a unique presenting style to the show, as did Laura and, of course, the very much missed Caroline Flack. We’re very pleased to have her on board."
