Love Island fans complain minutes into new series as they can't cope with the 'cringe'

Love Island fans were quick to complain about the new series - minutes into the show.

The ITV2 programme is back for its Winter edition with Maya Jama now hosting the programme following Laura Whitmore's exit at the end of the last series. The summer 2022 series saw Ekin-Su and Davide crowned champions, beating the likes of Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope and Gemma Owen and Luca Bish to the crown.

As the new series began with a string of new Islanders looking for love, viewers were quick to take to Twitter to vent their frustration over the new series - and they all had the same complaint.

Taking to social media, one fan said: "Every time I forget how cringe the first episode is, with these little intros of the new islanders in their “every day life” #LoveIsland." A second added: "The beginning of love island is always cringe sorry #LoveIsland."

"These intros are so cringe can they stop these #LoveIsland," a third shared, whilst a fourth wrote: "Well the #LoveIsland opener introducing the islanders is absolutely cringe. Like I’m still gonna watch the series. But it was cringe.."

A fifth penned: "Ok 1 minute in and it's cringe as hell! #LoveIsland."

Maya Jama is hosting the new series, taking over from Laura Whitmore, who had said that she was only planning to take over from the late Caroline Flack for one series but that it had quickly turned to three.

A first look unveiled earlier today saw Maya Jama making a cheeky quip at the male Islanders as she headed to join them in the villa before the girls' arrival. The boys and girls are set to couple up tonight, before a new bombshell enters the villa.

In a twist and never before done on the show, the viewers have been in charge of choosing which bombshell entered the show.

A public vote has decided whether Tom Clare will enter the villa (ITV)

Fans have had to choose between 25-year-old Ellie Spence, a Business Development Executive at a law firm in Norwich, or 23-year-old Tom Clare, a Semi-Pro Footballer from Barnsley. Whoever has been chosen will make their bombshell entrance into the villa soon.

Explaining why she's single, Ellie said: "I’m single because I fall in love really quick, but I fall out of it just as quickly. I could literally fall in love with a chair and then a week later be like, 'Oh wait, no, that's a chair…' I fall in love quickly because I build up a character of someone in my head and then they breathe in the wrong direction and I'm like, 'Next!'"

Tom added of his own single status: "Since my ex-girlfriend, no-one's really come to me and I’ve thought, 'Wow'. Until I have that, I'm not really going to settle for less. Not in a bad way, but the next person I get with, I want to marry."
