Love Island episode was Ofcom's most complained about show this year

An episode of Love Island was broadcasting watchdog Ofcom's most complained about TV event of the year.

The episode on July 17 received 2,630 complaints relating to "alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa". After reviewing the complaints, which surrounded the "Movie Night" episode of the reality dating show, Ofcom concluded no formal investigation was needed because of how the behaviour was put into context.

The second most complained about TV event of the year was Matt Hancock's inclusion on I'm A Celebrity which prompted 1,890 complaints between November 6 and 27.

Love Island appeared on the list twice more, in fourth and seventh places, both also relating to "complaints related to alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa".

Fans who watched the Movie Night episode were left fuming as Ekin-Su and Tasha were targeted by the boys after certain flirtations came to light. Ofcom said of the matter: “Complaints related to alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa, and we carefully assessed each and every one of these complaints.

“We ultimately concluded that the programme did not warrant formal investigation because of how this behaviour was put into context on the programme.”
