Love Island declares war on rival dating shows with first look at 2022 series

ITV2 has unveiled new cheeky teaser trailers to offers viewers a first look at the new series of Love Island.

The hit dating show has been on our screens for seven years and returns this summer with a bright new look. And it's declared 'war' on other copycat dating shows in one short teaser, poking fun at its rivals Naked Attraction, Celebs Go Dating and Ex On The Beach.

It also said: "Love Island is the OG of dating shows and after 7 years of matchmaking, marriages and babies - for 8 weeks this summer, we're officially owning love. So stand down all you pretenders - Love Is Ours."

The teaser shows a TV screen with the title "Naked Celebs Go Dating On A Beach." That TV is then quickly squashed by a pink hearted trainer as the words "LOVE" stand centre stage next to the show's iconic swimming pool. "WE OWN IT" is written on a flag which flies next to it.

Another teaser shows inflatables arranged to spell "THE OGS OF LOVE", while a couple kiss in the nude. The teasers follow reports that Winter Love Island, hosted by Laura Whitmore, could return to TV screens two years after it was axed.

The one and only series of the ITV reality show aired in 2020 and saw couple Fin Tapp and Paige Turley take the prize money in South Africa. However, bosses chose to scrap it as a result of the pandemic.

According to The Sun, a source said: "Love Island bosses enjoyed the one and only series of Winter Love Island, but it was just before the pandemic raged so was shelved for 2021. When they started casting for this summer’s series they thought there’s definitely enough talent to do a second series again so have started the plans for a 2023 Winter Love Island.

"The series generally is really important for them as it attracts the all-important younger viewers, so if they can get a second series in one year then everyone will be delighted," the insider added.
