Love Island bosses have secret plans to set couples up - but it sometimes goes very wrong

Eleven new sexy singletons are set to enter the Love Island villa looking for love, with the 2022 series kicking off next Monday.

But bosses have secretly already predicted who will couple up, after spending months going through thousands of applicants to find the perfect match.

In a chat with Mirror Online, Executive Producer, Mike Spencer says they already have a good idea about possible romances and even winners - but admits sometimes their predictions go completely wrong.

"I think over the years we try and do our guesswork. I think like thinking back to like series two, we kind of predicted Cara and Nathan, like really were each other's types from similar areas. I think Jack and Dani were an obvious pairing as well," he said.

"But there are a lot of couples that we do predict that obviously don't work out", Mike added.

He said bosses thought Tyler Cruickshank would be "the one" for Kaz Kamwi, but it didn't work out.

Talking about the exhaustive matchmaking process, Mike revealed: "I think we just ask as many questions during the first time we meet them, which was kind of early January time.

"And we just asked about historic exes, kind of what you're looking for now and everyone does across the whole casting process. So hopefully, we have someone for everyone, fingers crossed."

And they've made even more of a conscious effort to set up winning couples this year.

"I think so I think all we can do is keep trying with that, it's a dating show at the end of the day and I think you can never predict who's going to have a spark but all we can do is try and find as many people as we can that fancy each other," he said.

Of the cast, which includes Michael Owen's daughter Gemma, the first ever deaf contestant Tasha Ghouri and pharmaceutical salesman Ikenna Ekwonna, Mike thinks there is a "great mix" and "hopes there's someone for everyone".

He said: "It's really exciting, fun people in the mix. But most importantly, we've worked really hard, we think, to matchmake this year.

"I'm hoping that I mean, I won't make any predictions, but I'm hoping that there’s someone for everyone.

"I think we’ve done well with types. It's hard to tell though, obviously until you first meet someone you never know if you're going to be attracted to them.

"But I think we've got a good group of people and I know we’ve ticked off their types in the mix."

  • Love Island will return with series 8 on Monday, June 6 on ITV2 at 9pm.
