What time is Love Island on tonight? Channel and how to watch as Maya Jama hosts

It might feel as though Love Island 2022 just finished, but the 2023 series is very nearly with us.

The winter version of the series will be kickstarting on Monday January 16 in South Africa.

Steering the mechanical bull that is Love Island this year will be Maya Jama, who is taking the reins from former host Laura Whitmore, who quit in 2022.

This will only be the second series of the winter version after ITV2 was forced to cancel the show due to air in 2021 due to Covid.

So where will the contestants be staying this year? What can we expect from this series? How will the winter version differ from the summer version.

Here's everything you need to know...

What time will the Love Island air? And when will Aftersun return?

Love Island will air at 9pm on Monday January 16 - and if you miss it, the episode will be available on ITVX.

Aftersun will be back on Sunday after Love Island, with Maya hosting her first live show.

The series will air for eight weeks and will reportedly end on March 13.

Where is the Winter Lover Island villa located?

2023's Winter Love Island will feature the biggest villa of the entire series and is located in a secluded and protected area in the Franschhoek wine valley.

According to reports, work is underway at the luxury eco-retreat as ITV2 gears up for the new season next year.

With gorgeous mountain viewers and peace and quiet in the secluded area, the new contestants will be safer than ever.

The gigantic villa generates its own electricity, water and has numerous food sources, making it the perfect eco-friendly TV destination.

According to the villa's website, there are 8 Manor House rooms and three separate three-bedroomed ensuite villas.

It has a capacity for 34 guests making it the perfect size for contestants and crew.

Why did Laura Whitmore quit Love Island?

Maya Jama took over hosting duties from Laura Whitmore after the former host quit last year.

Taking to Instagram in August 2022 to make her announcement, the mum-of-one, 37, revealed: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island.

"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.

"I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.

"I hope I did you proud Caroline," sharing a message to the late Caroline Flack as she ended the caption.

In December, Laura appeared to make a dig at Love Island bosses when she said: "There was only so much I can do as a host". She added: "I couldn't support [the islanders] or not support them."

The former host told Psychologies magazine that she hadn't been able to "say anything". Laura further commented that she had to "go quiet".

The presenter - who took over as host from the late Caroline Flack in 2020 - said that was "hard" for her. Laura said that she likes to be able to "have those conversations".

And she suggested that it contributed to her departure. She told the outlet: "If I could [have done] things the way I wanted to, I'd probably still be doing it."
