Love Island 2022: What do the islanders eat and drink in the villa?

It seems the internet is bursting with memes, gifs and TikToks inspired by the antics and anecdotes from the first episode of Love Island season eight. But while we're prepared for eight weeks ofshmoozing after a public-voted somewhat controversial first coupling up, viewers may notice that we hardly ever see them enjoy a plate of scran - aside from various dishy challenges and drama-filled 'dinner date' episodes, which is a guaranteed juicy watch that can make or break a couple.

And although it may not make for the most intriguing telly, the islanders do get the chance to have a nibble every now and again and have some down time away from cameras.

Here, we take a look at what the class of '22 have for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the romance show and how much alcohol they're allowed to drink, as detailed by former contestants.

Drinks

Whenever the girls and boys get ready for a night in the villa, it seems, from the outside, that drinks (of the alcoholic kind) are flowing. However, the islanders are limited to how much they can consume per night. But don't worry, water is not kept to a minimum.

Amy Hart, whose ultimately rocky relationship with Curtis in 2018 was the talk of the town, revealed on TikTok recently that the group are allowed one alcoholic drink on a 'normal' night and two drinks "if it's a long night" - such as an eviction - with the first glass often being communal Prosecco. The influencer explained that Love Islanders are told on the first day that if any of the romance-seekers are caught sharing or giving their drink to anyone else, "everyone gets banned from drinking for like five days, so you'll let everyone else down - so don't do it".

Breakfast

For the contestants, breakfast is a pretty leisurely affair. They are free to choose and make their own food and iced coffees (unless their other half is a 'gentleman' and attempts to make it for them, which viewers often see) to their hearts content.

The villa kitchen is never short of snacks and drinks with it being constantly restocked so contestants never go hungry - they can also request certain foods. Staple items such as bread, cereal, eggs and fruit are at the islander's disposal to cook up a storm in the kitchen - until lunch, which is when things get interesting.

Lunch and Dinner

According to reality star Amy, islanders get told when they're sitting down for meal times - and it's not simply sandwiches and finger food.

A catering station is set up in the villa complete with chefs who make the team food, including barbecued meats and an array of salads. This is for both contestants and production team to tuck into and enjoy - but, according to Olivia Attwood (of series three), conversation while eating must be kept to a minimum.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: "When we have dinner, it's like them telling us we need to clean the bedroom, that laundry day is tomorrow and asking us what we want for our breakfast the next day, all just things that make the house run smoothly."

After his time in the villa, Scot Anton Danyluk also let on that producers even treated the group to McDonald's McFlurries every so often. It seems Love Island is the all-inclusive foodie holiday of dreams.

Love Island is on ITV2 daily at 9pm
