Love Island 2022 start date confirmed by ITV and it's closer than you think

Love Island season is fast approaching and now ITV has confirmed exactly when the ITV2 show will return for series eight. In fact, the latest instalment of the popular dating programme is just weeks away.

Rumours had been swirling that the Love Island start date was right around the corner and now bosses have announced the show will return on Monday, June 6. The launch episode will kick off at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub when the 2022 line-up will be seen heading into this year's brand new villa.

Love Island tweeted the start date, telling fans of the show: "Here's your first hot date of the summer #LoveIsland is back Monday 6th June on @itv2 and @itvhub!"

While this year's contestants are yet to be announced, what we do know is that host Laura Whitmore will be returning and that the villa for this year's series is changing. While the show will still be located in Mallorca, back in February ITV confirmed it would be a different villa.

In a statement, ITV said: "The ultimate Summer of love is on the horizon as Love Island makes its long-awaited return, direct from a brand new villa in Mallorca." You can read more about the new villa, here.

The official trailer for the 2022 version of the ITV2 programme dropped earlier this month and featured Love Island's narrator Iain Stirling. The teaser clip took aim at rival dating shows as Iain instructed them to stand down and said: "That's right, the gods of love are here, letting you know that this summer, love is ours."

Love Island 2022's trailer ended with a nod to last year's winner, fashion buyer Millie Court, who won the series with Welsh bricklayer Liam Reardon. The pair were crowned winners last August and split the £50,000 cash prize between them after beating runners up Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran in the final. The line-up for this year's show is yet to be confirmed but The Mirror reports that among those that could be taking part are Zara McDermott's brother Brad and former WAG Sophie Draper.
