Love Island star Paige Thorne has vowed to return to her job as a paramedic after her stint on the ITV2 dating show comes to an end.

The 24-year-old from Wales qualified for her NHS role six months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit and says she can’t imagine herself doing any other job.

Thorne does, however, feel “guilt” at jacking it in for the moment, especially as she didn’t give much notice.

Speaking ahead of the launch of the new series on Monday, she said: “I didn’t tell my bosses in advance, I probably gave them nowhere near enough time that I should have.

Paige Thorne says her dad isn’t thrilled about her going on Love Island (ITV)

“But you don’t find out until really close to the time if you get on the show. I didn’t want to risk my chances and start saying stuff beforehand.

“I gave them three weeks’ notice, which left it all a bit up in the air because I didn’t give enough time but yeah.

“I will 1,000 percent go back to being a paramedic. I love my job it gives me everything I could want from a job. I’m too much of a peoples’ person to not go back to something like that,” she added.

Another area she may need to work on once she leaves the villa is her family as her dad is far from happy about her joining the Love Island 2022 line-up.

She explained: “My mum was super, super supportive and she was like ‘no way.’ My dad on the other hand was like ‘no way’ but in a bad way’.

“He was like ‘you’re not really going on there are you?’

“He’s never watched the show so in his mind he’s made it out to be something that it’s not and he doesn’t want his little girl going on there and doing all these bits, so he was really apprehensive.

“’My mum gave him a bit of a telling off and told him to pull himself together and be supportive. He came round in the end and is excited for me bless him, but I don’t think he’ll be tuning in I’ll be honest.

The series 8 line-up of islanders looking for love has been confirmed (ITV)

“I can’t imagine my dad sitting there, he’s too much of a proper dad, dad.”

Thorne will be joining footballer Michael Owen’s daughter, Gemma, 19, microbiologist Dami Hope, 26, and the show’s first deaf contestant Tasha Ghouri, 23.

Nanny Amber Beckford, 24, waitress Indiyah Polack, 23, masters student Liam Llewellyn, 22, Italian-born Davide Sanclimenti, 27, and Ikenna Ekwonna, 23, who works in pharmaceutical sales have also been confirmed.
